The Governor of Òyó State, Seyi Makinde has ordered the deployment of additional 200 Amotekun officers, as a security strategy to restore sanity in the crisis-torn Ìbàràpá zone of Òyó State.
This is resolution is part of the effect the meeting held with representatives of Igangan, Ibarapaland which was attended by security stakeholders including the recently appointed Commissioner of Police, Oyo State, Mrs Ngozi Onadeko, is producing.
The Governor made this known in a thread of tweets he posted earlier today from his verified Twitter account.
According to the Governor, the security strategy includes the posting of additional 200 officers of the Amotekun Corps to Ibarapa and Oke-Ogun, which are hotspots for kidnapping/banditry in the state.
Adding that in subsequent weeks, his government will hold town hall meetings and community outreaches, to bring together residents and security agencies to address matters arising in communities and how issues can be solved through dialogue and more effective community policing.
Other strategies introduced by the Governor include the documentation of foreigners in the state, most importantly the miners. Saying that this will ensure that only legal foreigners with valid interests in Oyo State will remain within its borders.
Also, he substantiated the administration’s continual enforcement of the Oyo State Open Rearing and Grazing Regulation Law, 2019 which regulates the activities of herdsmen in the State, adding that Amotekun will continue team with ‘Operation Burst’ and local vigilante groups in implementing this law.
Gov Makinde further restated that the state government will not cease from supporting the police and other federal security agencies posted to the state in the discharge of their civic duties.
In the meantime, Seyi Makinde stated that the State Executive Council is taking into consideration the likelihood of paying compensations to families of victims or victims of this criminality who can prove their claims.
Adding that the State security agencies have commenced the prosecution process of all suspects arrested for criminal activities in Ibarapa and the Oke-Ogun zones of the state in connection with the ongoing insecurity matter in the vicinity.
