No less than fifty-eight (58) candidates have been approved by the Oyomesi, the ancient Oyo kingdom’s Kingmakers who are in charge of choosing the new Alaafin of Oyo.
The death of the 45th Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, left the Alaafin’s seat vacant.
119 princes have expressed interest in succeeding the former king who ruled for 52 years, went to be with the ancestors.
However, it was revealed on Friday that 61 of the contestants had been removed and that only 58 princes had received the approval of the kingmakers.
The council of Baba Iyaji, Agunpopo, Arole, na Isokun, and Atingisi conducted the screening and approved 58 of the 119 applications.
A source close to the palace revealed to our correspondent that the screening took place at the Baba Iyaji Palace while the screening was conducted in front of representatives of the Oyo state government.
Our correspondent gathered that the 58 princes will be screened by Oyomesi through oracle.
It was gathered that the last screening by 6 members of Oyomesi will produce one person which will be sent to the Oyo State government for confirmation.
