Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has said, “governance is a reflection of the society, and no political office holder can be successful without the input of the citizens, primarily the civil servants”. The Governor said this at the 70th birthday anniversary of ex-governor of Osun State, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola held at Okuku, Osun State.
The Oyo state first citizen also said governance was not about the All Progressives Congress or the Peoples Democratic Party.
He also charged religious leaders to keep praying, instead of installing the blame of bad governance in the country on the political powers.
Notable dignitaries at the event were the Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu (SAN); wife of Osun State Governor, Mrs Kafayat Oyetola; Osun State Deputy Governor, Benedict Alabi; and two factional chairmen of the PDP in the state, Soji Adagunodo and Sunday Bisi.
The Oyo governor, who deduced worthy nuggets from the sermon of the Diocesan Bishop of Osun North Anglican Communion at the event, Rt. Rev. Adetoye Olaoye, said, “ I picked one or two things from the sermon of the bishop. He said governance should not be about APC or PDP.
“I recognise the fact that once you attain power, you exert influence on society. We, the politicians, are not from abroad; we are from this society. Politicians are a reflection of our society.
“The prayer we need is that, as humans and Nigerians, God should continually guide us to do the right thing. There is no governor or any political office holder that can be successful without the civil servants. So, if you are praying for the political leaders, please, pray for civil servants.”
