Crown FC players Stranded in Ogbomosho as Court Sacks them from Hotel



Following the failure of Crown’s FC management to fulfill a ten-year contract to hotel owner in Ogbomosho, a High Court in Ibadan has ordered the ejection of players of the Football Club from their hotel facility in Idi-Abebe, Taki area of Ogbomoso.


Justice G. A. Sunmonu, in an action brought on behalf of the family by Mr. Adekunle Ogunniyi, ordered that N10 million be given to the plaintiff as a cost of general damages for each of the years spent.

The defendants, which comprised the state government, Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Commissioner for Youth and Sports, and the administration of Crown Football Club, Ogbomoso, had been in breach of agreement for ten years.

“Declaration that the relationship between the claimant’s family and the defendants is the landlord and tenant,” Justice Sunmonu ordered in his March 2, 2018 verdict.
The hotel belongs to the late Chief P. Ogunniyi family.
“Declaration that the sum of N2 million paid by the 4th defendant for a period of 10 years lapsed on the 31st day of December, 2018.
“That act of the 4th defendant being sponsored by the 1st and 3rd defendants in demolishing and rebuilding the structure is a breach of usual covenants.

“That an order evicting the 1st, 3rd and 4th defendants and their agents from the property is issued.

“That the sum of N1 million as general damages against the 1st defendant.

“That injunction restraining the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th defendants from parading themselves as the owners of the property is issued.

“That cost of N100, 000.00 be awarded in favour of the claimant and against the defendants,” the judgment reads.

Meanwhile, the defendants’ failure to comply with the court’s March 2, 2018 verdict resulted in the eviction of the occupiers (Crown FC players) from the property in question, which occurred on April 29, 2022.

Kunle Oyeleye, the General Manager of the Crown Football Club, confirmed the occurrence, saying that the court had issued the order, which had been carried out.
