Court Convicts 5 Internet Scammers in Ibadan

A presiding Judge of the Federal High Court sitting in Ibadan, Oyo State, Justice Patricia Ajoku, on Wednesday, March 17, 2021, convicted and sentenced five internet fraudsters of the charge of criminal impersonation, contrary to Section 22(2)(b)(ii) of the Cybercrime (Prohibition, Prevention, ETC.) Act, 2015 and punishable under Section 22 (2) (b) of the same Act.

They are: Omosehin Sina, Yusuf Olajide Bello, Olowosogba Olamilekan Samson, Bakare Omolayo Toheed and Sodiq Oluwasegun Adefila

The convicts pleaded guilty to their respective charges per the conditions of the plea bargain agreement with the Commission.

Due to their pleas, prosecution counsel, Ben Ubi and Chidi Okoli invited Umara Uyah, Nafiu Sa’ad and Usman Babangida Mohammed to survey the facts of the case as witnesses.

The court accordingly convicted them as charged and sentenced; Omosehin and Olowosogba both got individual four years jail term, while Yusuf earned eighteen months jail term. Bakare got four months while Adefila secured three months imprisonment. Their sentence is effective from their dates of arrest

The convicts are to refund sundry amounts to their victims and also give up the items recovered from them to the Federal Government of Nigeria.
