UI Vice-chancellor lobbies FIFA on Football Academy at the Institution


Professor Kayode O. Adebowale, FAS, mni, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, has requested the Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFAaid) in establishing a Football Academy at the university.


Professor Adebowale made the plea during a courtesy call to his office by a five-man FIFA delegation, saying he would like to leave the Football Academy as one of his administration’s legacies.

He stated that the Football Academy would be extremely beneficial to both UI and Nigeria as a whole. He stated that FIFA, as an international organization, has greater clout and is thus better positioned to assist in the establishment of the Football Academy.


The Vice-Chancellor also urged for partnership with FIFA in Sports Science and Medicine.




Mr Solomon Mudege, the FIFA team’s head and a member of FIFA’s Association Division, said his organization was always willing to support development programs aimed at advancing football in Africa stating further that; “this is why FIFA is collaborating with the Pan African University to boost its Sports Management degree.



The FIFA delegation was in Ibadan to facilitate a workshop for MSc. Sports Management students from the Pan African University Life and Earth Sciences Institute and Postgraduate students in Sports Science at the University of Ibadan.

Mrs Fatou Binetou Ba, a FIFA consultant; Dr Nonhlanhla Mkumbuzi, a FIFA consultant; the Director of PAULESI, Professor Esther T. Akinlabi; HOD Human Kinetics/ Programme coordinator, Professor O. A. Adegbesan; Deputy Director of PAULESI, Dr M.A. Oladunjoye; Engr O. Okewale, ICT Officer and Mr K. A. Osunlana, Admin Officer at PAULESI were part of the FIFA delegates present at the meeting.

Present with the Vice-Chancellor were the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Administration, Professor E.O. Ayoola; Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic, Professor Aderonke Baiyeroju; Dean of Education, Prof O. A. Fakolade; Dean of Students, Professor I. A. Abiona; Deputy Registrar in the Office of the Vice-Chancellor, Mrs Morenike Afolabi and the PAR/ PRO, Mrs Adejoke Akinpelu.
