Fulani Herdsmen Kill One, as Survivor Narrates His Ordeal after Escaping being Killed in Akinyele



Mr Rasak Amidu Ishola who narrowly escaped death has narrated how suspected Fulani herdsmen killed a village youth leader in Kara axis of Akinyele local government in Ibadan.

The young man, who is an Okada rider, narrating his ordeal at Agidigbo FM premises, on Saturday, stated that the suspected Fulani put AK-47 on his chest during the attack he suffered from those he took to Akinyele to buy a cow.

Mr Rasak, who said he lives in the Alegongo area along Akobo-Basorun road, narrated that he took his uncle and one other person to Akinyele to buy a cow, saying that before they went on the trip, his uncle had already called his regular customer who said he has a cow.

He said on reaching Akinyele, the cow dealer later told them to move to another village where they will get the cow from his father but, unfortunately, they were ambushed by suspected Fulani on the road to the other village.


Mr Rasak said his uncle was taken into the bush while he ran to a nearby village to raise the alarm to the residents of the village.

“The residents were surprised that such criminality could be going on in their area which prompted Village Youth Leader and others to storm the bush and look for two abducted persons.

“During the process to secure their release, the Fulani that took us to the village had connived with them and they started shooting. Unfortunately, the Village Youth Leader was hit with a bullet and he died while one of the people I took to the village also sustained injury from the gunshot. One of the Fulanis was arrested and now Moniya Police Station custody,” said Mr Rasak.

Mr Rasak added that the Moniya Police Station gave them clearance which they took to where one of the victims receiving treatment.

He urged the Oyo State Governor, Engr Seyi Makinde, to ensure that the perpetrators of the evil act are caught and dealt with, He also urged Moniya Police Station to get to the root of the matter.

Meanwhile, the Oyo state police command confirmed the incident and said that some suspects have been arrested.

Mr Adewale Osifeso, Public Relations Officer of the police command, who confirmed the incident, chose not to state the number of the arrested persons.

He however asserted that investigations have begun to arrest suspects linked to the foiled abduction.

“An abduction was foiled by Command Operatives attached to Moniya Divisional Police Headquarters in collaboration with vigilantes and local hunters upon the strength of a distress call received at the early hours of Saturday 10/07/2021.

“So far, arrests have been made while comprehensive investigations are ongoing to apprehend other culprits linked with the foiled abduction.

“Meanwhile updates would be provided soonest, please,” he said.
