The Shooting Stars Sports club of Ibadan (3SC) lost their first NPFL match to Lobi Stars football club of Makurdi in a day three match of the Nigeria Professional Football League Yesterday.
The match, which was held at the Aper Aku Stadium in Makurd, saw the Oluyole take the lead in the first half thanks to Akilu Mohammed’s 40th minute goal, but the home team won 2 – 1.
Shooting Stars’ head coach, Felix Agoye, claimed after the game that his team failed to capitalize on the lead they held in the clash.
“We met a very good Lobi Stars team, a team that is well coached but when you make mistakes, you get punished. That was exactly what happened in the game.
“We lost focus and we paid dearly for it. We had the advantages but we refused to take them. If we had taken our advantages, the chances we had, I think it would have been a different story”, sated the. 3SC sweat merchant who expressed satisfaction with the standard of officiating, describing it as fair.
Akilu Mohammed handed 3SC a well-deserved lead with around five minutes left in the first half, which they kept going into the break.
The game’s momentum shifted in the 63rd minute when Lobi Stars equalized through Adams Olamilekan, before Ifeanyi Ogba’s 72nd-minute goal sealed victory.
All attempts by 3SC’s substitutions, Gafar Olafimihan, Wasiu Alalade, and Ayo Adejubu, to bring the score level were prevented by the hosts’ defense, which held on until the finish of the game.
On Sunday, the Oluyole Warriors will welcome Katsina United in a matchday four match at the Lekan Salami Stadium.
