The race to be the next vice chancellor of the Technical University of Ibadan has heated up, with more than six renowned candidates expressing interest.
According to Akeem Lasisi, the Institution’s Public Relations Officer, the process for appointing a new VC has reached its peak.
It was gathered that the Rector, Ibadan Poly; Professor Abubakre Oladiran Kamardeen is one of the notable individuals who has declared interest in the position.
Others whobdecapared their intensts are: are: Professors Abubakre Oladiran Kamardeen, Ibadan Poly Rector, Prof. Adebiyi Kazeem Adekunle, Ajayi Sunday Adesola, Akinyemi Olukayode Dewunmi, Amu Olugbenga Oludolapo, Jekayinfa Simeon Olatayo and Ogunkunle Adepoju Tunde J.
Others are: Professors Oguntunde Philip Gbenro, Oladipo Samuel Ekundayo and Oni Olatunde Michael.
It will be noted that the pioneer VC, Prof. Ayobami Salami tenure in office will end on May 8, 2022.
The Visitor to the University, ‘Seyi Makinde; the Council, Senate, Management, staff, and students are all yearning for another skilled hand to take over from Salami and advance Tech-U beyond the praised heights he has brought it to, according to Akeem Lasisi.
Meanwhile, plans are on for the university’s first convocation, which will take place on Saturday, March 5, 2022.
While Emeritus Professor Julius Okojie, Nigeria’s foremost scholar and administrator, will deliver the Convocation Lecture, five accomplished Nigerians will be awarded honorary doctoral degrees: Chief Tunde J. Afolabi MFR, Chief Adebayo Akande, Chief Ammal Pepple, Professor Toyin Falola, and Mr Segun Agbaje, the Managing Director of GTBank.
The Convocation Play – Love’s Unlike Lading, by iconic Professor Femi Osofisan, and directed by Tunji Azeez, will be staged on Friday, May 4, 2023, at Tech-U’s main campus on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Ibadan.
