The Oyo State Road Transport Management Authority (OYRTMA) has vehemently denied a now widely circulated social media post that implicated the Authority in the death of a an elderly man from Ibadan named Pa. Paul Akinloye Ogedengbe, 80, of the Soka Area, Ibadan.
We learned about the alleged event that had allegedly occurred on Friday, September 9, 2022, around 1400 hours in Molete, Ibadan, from a senior official of the Oyo State Government who attends the same church as the dead on Sunday, September 11, 2022, at around 0748 hours.
As soon as the information was made public, the General Manager of the Authority, Mr. Adeoye Ayoade Kola, appointed a seven-person panel of inquiry to investigate the matter, apprehend all those responsible, and report back within 12 hours. The panel was headed by the Executive Chairman of the Authority, Mogaji Akin Fagbemi Ph.D.
On the same day, Sunday, September 11, 2022, at around 1530 hours, the Investigative Committee paid a visit to the family and met with the deceased man’s wife and his family. The Investigative Committee was headed by the General Manager. The Authority promised prompt investigations that would result in the capture of offenders and their exposure to the full force of the law.
Our initial inquiries, however, showed that the deceased, Pa. Paul Akinloye Ogedengbe, who was believed to be around 80 years old, and his septuagenarian wife were inside the car at the time of the incident. As an eyewitness to the incident, Madam Ogedengbe told us during the condolence visit and over the phone that her elderly husband had chronic diabetes and acute high blood pressure.
In addition to these underlying conditions, Madam Ogedengbe disclosed that her deceased husband had undergone several surgeries just a few days prior to the occurrence for conditions including prostate cancer and others that could only be fully revealed by official medical history and documents.
However, we arrived at the scene quickly and detained a few suspects who matched Madam Ogedengbe’s description as being involved in the terrible incident. To offer their own reports, we also called upon our officers who are stationed in the Molete area of the Ibadan Metropolis.
