On Wednesday, 31st August, 2022, while delivering a keynote address at a stakeholders consultative meeting on 2023 budget, Oyo State acting Governor, Barrister Bayo Lawal, described the sympathy strike embarked upon by the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomosho, in solidarity with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) as unnecessary and called for full resumption of the institution.
Barrister Bayo Lawal affirmed that the state government was not in any way indebted to LAUTECH, and has shown commitment in fulfilling its responsibility to the institution, and as such, they should halt their solidarity with ASUU immediately.
He also revealed that the state government had to fulfill a recent agreement with LAUTECH to call off the strike even after 200 million naira was paid to the institution as a condition to call off the strike.
The acting Governor also charged the people to always be concerned about societal progress and development rather than clogging the wheel of progress.
