Oyo state government to set up checkpoints at porous borders

Oyo Government has revealed its plans to establish security checkpoints at porous entry and exit points to strengthen its security architecture.

Fatai Owoseni, special adviser on security to Governor Seyi Makinde, while speaking at the end of the inauguration of an 11-man security task force on Monday, said the border checkpoints would be integrated into the state’s ‘control room.’

He pointed out that the task force would not undermine the activities of security agencies in the state.

“The issue of entry points and our state is being regarded as being a bit porous, we reckoned that there would be checkpoints at the major entry and exit points of the state and that will be integrated into the state control room and general state security architecture,” said Mr. Owoseni.

He added, “Firstly, it is important to state that at no point do we want to, by action or omission, displace the activities of the security agencies in the state as they operate. We want to work in a way that is complementary to whatever they do.

“Secondly, we do intend to identify the various communities, contacts, and markets in our state in order that we can enumerate who is where and who we need to contact.”

Mr. Makinde explained that he set up the task force set up to ensure that the state was in control of security situations, Voice of Nigeria reported.

He added that the state had to be up and doing security-wise to brace up against a replica of the kidnapping situation in the North and tackle all forms of crimes.
