The Oyo State Police Command has announced the release of two persons kidnapped on Monday at a quarry site in Ibadan
According to CSP Olugbenga Fadeyi, Police Public Relations Officer, the police were able to rescue two of the five victims on Tuesday.
He further added that police officers were still ransacking the forest for the remaining victims, and the kidnappers for their apprehension.
It would be recalled that the herdsmen at least seven in number, attacked their victims around Ibuso Gbooro, close to Dally Junction, by a quarry site, at about 7 am, wielding sophisticated rifles and shooting sporadically into the air.
Babatunde Dauda, a staff of Polaris Bank, and Oluwaseun Oluokun, a palm-wine tapper, are part of five victims of the kidnappers, who were abducted along the Ibadan-Ijebu Ode Road.
Reports said the Fulani gunmen, mounted a roadblock on the road, forcing two Toyota Camry vehicles to a halt.
They went ahead to abduct two bankers working with Polaris and Wema Banks from one of the vehicles, instructing the driver to contact the victims’ families for the amount of ransom to be paid.
The bankers were en route to their offices in Ijebu Ode, and the other car occupants were going to Ogbere, Ogun State.
They allegedly abducted two occupants of the second vehicle and a palm wine tapper on his way to tap wine on the farm.
Meanwhile, the Divisional Police Officer and police officers from Idi Ayunre division in a joint operation with the police tactical teams; Anti-Kidnapping Squad, local vigilantes and hunters; Agbekoya and Amotekun Corps, ransacked the forest for the kidnappers and their victims.
On Tuesday, around 1 pm, they secured the release of the victims (the Polaris Bank staff and the palm wine tapper) at the Ogunmakin area.
They were rescued without any ransom been paid, but the victims suffered through the beatings from their abductors.
