The Oyo State Police Command has opened an investigation into the alleged disappearance and eventual death of 100level student of Obafemi Awolowo Unuversity; Jamila Abu.
On Wednesday, July 6, the youngster was alleged to have left her parents’ home on Ireakari Estate near the Akala-Expressway in Ibadan, Oyo State.
According to Mrs. Abu, the victim’s mother, Jamima complained of a headache in the morning before she left for her shop that morning,
Jamila’s phone and a suicide note, according to her, were on the table when she got home in the evening.
“Jamila is a quiet person who will never commit suicide because we provide all her needs.
“We waited for some hours and when we did not see her, we reported the incident to the police,” she added.
However, a church member of the victim, Olawale Olaniyan, said Jamila was found unconscious by a passerby on their estate.
Olaniyan noted that the passerby, who was not aware that the victim was missing, started seeking people to identify her.
He said, “While the passerby was knocking on random doors, he knocked on the family’s door and fortunately, Jamila’s brother, a secondary school student, opened the door and identified his sister.
“Jamila’s mother immediately rushed down to the scene to identify her daughter as well. The family went back to the police to notify them that she had been found.
“Jamila was found lying on the floor unconscious with some scratches on her hands and her eyes opened, but she was not talking.”
According to the source, Jamila was rushed to a hospital and admitted for treatment.
Adewale Osifeso, a spokesman for the Oyo State Police Command, confirmed the occurrence and stated that an investigation was continuing.
He assured that the police investigation’s findings would be made public.
