…Says strategy to Improve reading Culture amongst Pupils
The Oyo State government has adopted a literacy book, Iwe-Kika, in conjunction with the Universal Basic Education Board (UBEC), for the implementation of Better Education Service Delivery across the state.
Iwe-Kika which is a fun and engaging Yoruba language training tool that employs phonics literacy teaching technique is recommended by the Universal Basic Education Commission.
Dr. Nureni Adeniran, the Executive Chairman of the Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board, said the literary book is suggested to educate out of school children since it swiftly equips them with the abilities they need to read and write in Yoruba.
The Oyo State Government, in partnership with UBEC and the World Bank, purchased and delivered 31, 302 Dandan l’eko and Jolly phonics textbooks to 1,200 schools in the twenty-one (21) BESDA Local Government Universal Basic Education Areas, he said.
The State Government and UBEC contributed N135, 261, 450.00 for Dadan leko books in schools, while N9, 273, 319 was allocated for Jolly phonics, according to Adeniran.
The SUBEB chairman reaffirmed the Oyo State Government’s commitment to the BESDA strategy of removing out-of-school children from the streets and ensuring their retention in schools.
