Oyo Government Employs 150 Persons Living with Disability as Teachers

150 newly-recruited teachers who are living with disability in Oyo State, have just been handed their appointment letters by the Oyo State Government.

These appointment letters were presented on Monday at the Oyo State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM) office, secretariat, Ibadan.

Alamu Akinade, The Chairman of TESCOM, in charge of the presentation of the appointment letters, said it was the zenith of the recruitment of 7,000 employees encompassing teaching and non-teaching staff approved by Governor Seyi Makinde.

He stated that TESCOM decided to issue the letter publicly to the successful applicants to clear the air over criticisms that some able-bodied applicants “are among the 150 successful disabled.”

The TESCOM boss went ahead to disclose that the recruitment process for 50 disabled persons for the non-teaching positions would conclude soon.

Idowu Ogedengbe, the Special Assistant to the Governor on Administration, in his statement said the state recruits based on merit.

He further added that though the disabled applicants were not permitted to take the computer-based test “we interviewed all of them’’.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Persons Living With Disabilities, Ayodele Adekanbi, said efforts are currently ongoing to ensure the availability of necessary teaching aids and a conducive environment, to those employed in other to execute their jobs diligently.

These newly employed special teachers showered the government with gratitude over the appointment and vowed to take their new jobs serious.
