Oyo state government has commenced the celebration of the 2021 children’s day.
The weeklong event themed: Effects of a covid-19 pandemic on the total wellbeing of the Nigerian Child: way forward, kick-started with a special Jumat prayer held at Oyo the State Government Secretariat central mosque, Agodi, Ibadan, this Friday.
While addressing newsmen shortly after the Jumat prayer, the state commissioner for women affairs and social inclusion, Alhaja Faosat Sanni, said the weeklong programs that will last for six days were put together to celebrate children in the state and also boost their morale.
Alhaja Sanni, charged parents to be responsible and responsive in taking good care of their children.
She also called on the children to be good ambassadors of their families.
Earlier in his exhortation, Alhaji Babatunde Aliyu, admonished parents and guardians to teach their children and wards the way of God, while the Chief Imam of Secretariat Central Mosque, Alhaji Imran Mustapha, commended and prayed for the Oyo state governor, engineer Seyi Makinde for his efforts channeled towards qualitative education for the children.
On the entourage of the commissioner for women affairs were the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Inclusion, Mrs. Christiana Abioye, amongst others.
Children’s Day is a commemorative date celebrated annually in honor of children, whose date of observance varies by country. In 1925, International Children’s Day was first proclaimed in Geneva during the World Conference on Child Welfare.
