Officers involved in shooting of Eruwa Polytechnic student Identified, Arrested – Oyo Police

The Oyo State Police Command on Tuesday, 15th October 2022 confirmed the identity and subsequent arrest of some of its officers accused of shooting Samuel Akinsuyi, a student of the Adeseun Ogundoyin Polytechnic in Eruwa, Oyo State.

Recall, Akinsuyi, a student in the Polytechnic’s Business Administration Department, was allegedly shot in the leg by a police officer on his way from Eruwa to Ibadan on Friday during a stop-and-search operation.

The officer was arrested on Tuesday in Ibadan, according to the command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Adewale Osifeso.

According to Osifeso, the state’s Commissioner of Police, Ngozi Onadeko, has ordered a complete investigation into the circumstances that led to the sad event.

“The Operatives involved have all been identified, apprehended, and are currently undergoing debrief, accompanied immediately with the commencement of their orderly room trials.”

As a result, the police have appealed for public calm, guaranteeing that the officers in issue would face a comprehensive and thorough inquiry, as well as appropriate sanctions.

He also stated that he would provide updates on the situation as soon as possible.
