A man identified simply as Adeoye Adekunle has been detained by the Oyo State Police Command yesterday on suspicion of allegedly running over Agbo Godwin, a commercial motorcyclist, on Ring Road in Ibadan, the state’s capital.
After the deceased passed him while driving Adekunle’s Lexus SUV with registration number EKY 337 EL along High Court/Ring Road, it was reported that Adekunle became quite irate.
Adekunle knocked the dead to the ground after they got into a heated dispute, according to a statement from the command’s spokesman, Adewale Osifeso.
He did explain that the victim, who was driving an unregistered Bajaj Boxer motorcycle, erratically passed the suspect’s car at a point of negotiation, which prompted the suspect to provoke the deceased and the two engaged in an insulting verbal altercation.
According to Osifeso, on Friday, June 1, 2023, at around 2030 hours, his younger brother, Agbo Godwin, age 32, who is now deceased, and Adeoye Adekunle, age 37, who ran over his brother with a Lexus SUV with registration number EKY 337 EL after an argument that had earlier broken out between them, were involved in a fatal motor vehicle accident.
“Consequential to scientific findings and other forensic evidence gathered, the Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Police Command, CP Adebowale Williams, has ordered that the case be transferred to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department.
“The suspect would be charged to court upon completion of diligent investigations…”
“Further developments will be communicated accordingly,” the statement concluded.”
