Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde has reportedly promised to refund the monies used in purchasing forms to aspirants who stepped down and embraced consensus ahead of the the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) primaries slated for May.
According to a local government party chairman who spoke with our correspondent on the grounds of anonymity quoted the Governor to have said this during a meeting with aspirants from the 33 local governments held at Agodi Government House on 25th, April, 2022.
Another source from Oyo zone said the Governor didn’t make the pronouncement publicly but said it when he met aspirants from each local government. Those whose monies will be refunded are those who who submitted their forms while those who didn’t submit following the consensus arrangement will be asked to pay certain amount to the account of the party before they can be considered.
However, there are indications that the All Progressives Congress in Oyo State is trying to poach some aspirants and few appointees of Governor Seyi Makinde who the consensus arrangements in the PDP did not favour to defect to the opposition party and get automatic tickets.
This plot was uncovered by prominent stakeholders in the APC who are at loggerheads with the faction led by a Senator . They alleged that the senator had already penciled down names of some political juggernauts in or outside Makinde’s government for automatic tickets at the expense of those who are core progressives.
Reacting to the claim, Senator Teslim Folarin’s media aide, YSO Olaniyi denied the allegations that the front line gubernatorial aspirant (Folarin) has offered automatic tickets to those that had defected to APC from PDP and the serving appointees in Governor Seyi Makinde’s government who are negotiating with the APC.
YSO added that only credible and formidable candidates with track records will be fielded by the party into different elective positions ahead of the party primaries.
