LG Elections: OYSIEC Plotting Against Supreme Court Verdict — Abass-Aleshinloye

The Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC) and Governor Seyi Makinde, have been lambasted by the sacked 68 chairmen of Local Government and Local Council Development Areas of Oyo State, because of the May 7th council elections.

The sacked chairmen under the auspices of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Oyo State chapter labelled the incoming elections as scam and sham.

These sacked chairmen were elected during the late Governor Abiola Ajimobi administration but were sacked on May 29th, 2019, by Governor Makinde administration.

We remember that OYSIEC had announced that the council elections would take place on May 15th, 2021. But the Supreme Court is expected to deliver judgement on the matter on May 7, 2021.

The Oyo State Chairman of ALGON, Prince Ayodeji Abass-Aleshinloye, while giving an audience to journalists in Ibadan, said scheduling the poll when judgement is being expected was illegal, presumptuous, wasteful and unnecessary.

The group said they except a favourable judgement, adding that it would become of huge benefit if ALGON wins the judgement.

“While all parties to the suit are expected to await the judgement for final closure since the Supreme Court has fixed a date to deliver a ruling on the matter.”

“There has been a threat to our life. They made several attempts in our lives. We don’t believe in violence. Nobody has a monopoly of violence. We need to get justice.”

“Nobody is participating in any illegality. That means we are going against the rule of law. We can never participate in the election”

“We advise political parties and candidates not to invest in OYSIEC electoral market process which leads to nowhere if ALGON wins at the Supreme Court on May 7, 2021. Don’t be scammed. After May 7 judgement, the political climate will be clear to all and sundry and nobody will be scammed.

“On this point, We call on OYSIEC to stop the process of its scammed election; it is illegal, presumptuous, wasteful and unnecessary”.
