Following clearance from the federal government, the Oyo state administration has approved the extension of the ongoing reconstruction of the Iseyin/Fashola/Oyo road for a sum of N1.5bn.
This was revealed to journalists on Wednesday after Governor Seyi Makinde presided over the 13th State Executive Council meeting. The meeting took place in Ibadan’s Executive Chamber, Governor’s Office, Secretariat.
Professor Kehinde Sangodoyin, the state commissioner for public works and transport, disclosed that the Makinde-led administration is set to facilitate vehicle traffic on the road, which will add value to the area’s agribusiness and promote the state economy.
The road expansion was granted to Kopek Construction Company for N1.5 billion under an alternative finance approach, and it is projected to be completed within a year. The road was originally allocated for N8.4 billion, but now it is worth N9.9 billion thanks to the latest expansion.
Seun Ashamu, the commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, said the council also approved a sum of 700 million naira for the refurbishing of electrical infrastructure at the state Secretariat, Government House, and other adjacent government structures that are over three decades old.
Ashamu highlighted that this has wreaked havoc on the workforce, adding that service delivery is suffering as a result, despite the fact that the new electrical infrastructure is supposed to be completed in six months.
