The Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde has promised never to ‘‘stay in the gutters’’ with oppositional elements using all might to distract him from dealing with the insecurity problems in the state.
Makinde who said this during a recent interview with media men at the Government House, Agodi, Ibadan, further added that instead of exchanging words with critics, he would pay deaf ears to their criticism.
Recall that Makinde went through a series of backlash from critics on the problems of insecurity.
The Governor reported that he remains unfazed because his people (residents of the state) love him, further adding that they appreciate the measures which his administration is taking regarding the state’s security.
He said: “So, I have chosen not to stay in the gutters with those folks trying to distract us. I will leave them to whatever it is they are doing.”
Furthermore, the governor boasts of having street credibility and can even walk freely anywhere in the state, a quality, which he said the critics are short of.
“I am glad that we do have street credibility. If they think we don’t, I will volunteer to walk on the street of Oje with any of them and we will see who has the credibility. So, the people are appreciative of what we are doing and they know precisely what is going on.”
In his closing remarks, the Governor said he will go on with serving the majority of the people who elected him into office but not the insignificant few critics who are majorly interested in selfish gains.
“If a majority of the people elected us to be in this office, we are supposed to serve the majority of our population and that is exactly what we are going to do and what we are going to keep doing,” Makinde said.
