IBEDC Partners MOJEC to Provide Customers with 24-Hour Meter Delivery

MOJEC Meter Asset Management Company, the largest meter manufacturer in Nigeria has teamed with the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) to enable 24-hour meter distribution to interested clients through the Meter Asset Provider (MAP) Initiative.

This is an outgrowth of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission’s (NERC) approved ‘Meter Asset Provider (MAP)’ scheme, whose slogan is “metering at your doorstep.”

The program according to the Team Lead, M3AC, Titilope Oyelade aims to streamline the lengthy general meter installation procedure, which involves everything from KYC through survey, payment, acquisition, and installation in less than 24 hours.

He further disclosed during the launch of the scheme at the Sango business unit, that the Mobile MAP initiative would run for the next two months across the various business units of the nine Discos with whom the M3AC currently partners with.

“Each Disco is expected to meter at least 100,000 customers under the initiative,” she stated.

She added that M3AC initiated the Mobile MAP scheme in response to persistent calls by consumers who want pre-paid meters to save them from the menace of estimated billings and other under-table dealings which they consider economically strangulating.

According to Oyelade, the meter purchasing procedure has been made so simple that all interested customers had to do was register on their Disco’s website.

She intimated that over 10,000 meters would be available for monthly distribution to clients along the Sango Ota axis, and that the activity would continue as long as consumers demanded the meters.

She explained that the meters are being delivered directly to customers in order to prevent them from extortion under any pretext, which is why the pricing for the meters are clearly indicated in all contacts.

The program aims to streamline the general meter installation procedure, which encompasses everything from KYC to survey, payment, procurement, and installation.

She hinted that there would be over 10,000 meters available to be given out monthly to customers at the Sango Ota axis, and that the exercise would be a continuous one as long as consumers make demands for the meters.

She said the meters are being taken directly to the consumers as they want to protect them from being extorted under any guise and which was why the prices for the meters are boldly stated in all communications.

‘’Under the Mobile MAP scheme, the approved NERC prices for meters are N63,061.32 for single-phase and N117,910.69 for three-phase (VAT inclusive), and the prices cover the cost of meters and installation”, she added.
Olujide Odutuyo, IBEDC Business Manager, Sango Unit, said they worked with M3AC because they wanted to make pre-paid meters available to all users so that they could get accurate readings on the electricity they used.

He encouraged customers to use the Mobile MAP since it eliminates projected billings and is a speedier alternative to the NMMP. Consumers may be metered in under 24 hours, he claims, because all steps from KYC to survey to payment and installation are completed in rapid time.

Tunde Folarin, a consumer, expressed satisfaction with the Mobile MAP project, beaming with delight at being metered in less than 24 hours.

He was optimistic that more Nigerians would embrace the Mobile MAP metering plan to escape the menace of estimated billing.
