Mr. Sarafa was accused of defiling by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Oyo State.
Chief Magistrate P. O. Adetuyibi issued a remand order for Mr. Sarafa to the Abolongo Correctional Center in Oyo after rejecting his claim of lack of jurisdiction.
He was to be held in custody pending legal counsel from the Oyo State Directorate of Public Prosecution, per Ms. Adetuyibi’s directive (DPP).
She postponed discussion of the subject until April 27.
Afe Olurotomi, the prosecution’s attorney, earlier informed the court that Mr. Sarafa had defiled his daughter in December 2022.
Mr Olurotimi said that the defilement occurred at Ile-Ejo Idi-Osun, Papa area, Ibadan, where the man lived with his family.
According to the prosecutor, the offence is contrary to the provisions of Section 34 (1) and punishable under Section 34 (2) of the Oyo State Child Rights Law, 2006.
