…set to probe killings of Citizens
The House of Representatives sought a probe into the alleged extrajudicial killing of certain inhabitants of Igangan, Igbo-Ora, Ayete, and Tapa in the Ibarapa Area of Oyo State by Nigeria Customs Service men on Wednesday.
This came after Rep. Ajibola Muraina (PDP-Oyo) proposed a motion on the House floor.
The motion is titled, “Need to Investigate the Brutal Murder by Men of the Nigeria Customs Service at Igangan, Igbo Ora, Ayete, Tapa in Ibarapa Area of Oyo State.”
According to the Oyo born lawmaker, men of the NCS attacked Igangan, Igbo-Ora, Ayete, Tapa, and other communities in the Ibarapa Area of Oyo State around 8 p.m. on July 16, 2021, killing four harmless and defenceless residents.
The representative stated that the NCS shot recklessly in built-up areas and killed Muritala Ajasa, the Amotekun Commandant in Ibarapa Central Local Government Area, near Igbo-Ora, without resistance from the populace.
He added that the terrorists killed two bystanders in Igangan and one in Ayete, as well as injuring other residents with life-threatening bullet wounds.
He bemoaned the fact that on June 6, approximately 40 days before the incident, suspected bandits stormed Igangan in the middle of the night, killing 15 citizens and razing the Afin Oba (palace), two filling stations, and destroying properties worth millions of naira.
The House, while reacting to the motion, rebuked the killing of four people by NCS men at Igangan, Igbo Ora, Ayete, and Tapa in the Ibarapa Area of Oyo State, and expressed condolences to the families and friends of all those who died in the tragedy.
The House also directed the Customs and Excise Committee to look into the killings in Igangan, Igbo-Ora, and Ayete Tapa, with the goal of ensuring that victims were financially compensated.
