The suspected leader of the gang that recently stormed Popular Ibadan based radio station, Fresh FM, in Challenge, Ibadan, has been apprehended by Oyo State Police Command agents.
The radio station belonging to ace broadcaster and popular gospel juju musician was robbed about 6am on the 10th of last month.
The state Commissioner of Police, Ngozi Onadeko, disclosed that the suspects, who specialized in robbing hotels, hospitals, and other public places, attacked the radio station on April 10 and dispossessed employees on duty of large sums of money, expensive mobile phones, and other items during a parade at the police headquarters in Eleyele, Ibadan on Tuesday.
The incident according to Onadeko was reported to the command’s Monitoring Unit, which is managed by Commander CSP Olusola Aremu, and an inquiry was initiated immediately to apprehend the culprits.
A similar operation was carried out by members of the gang at other hotels in the Ibadan city, according to the police chief, while on March 24, the gang invaded a hospital in the Ring Road area, where patients and medical employees were attacked and robbed of their belongings.
She said, however, following the discreet investigation by operatives of the Monitoring Unit, the kingpin of the gang was arrested in his hideout in connection with the crimes.
“Upon interrogation, the suspect confessed to the crime and series of other criminal activities he had masterminded with his syndicate members in different parts of Oyo State.
“Investigation is still ongoing to crack the criminal network and other members of the gang who are at large with a view to recovering the valuable items that were carted away” – Onadeko added.
The police boss said all suspects arrested would be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations.
