The Ibadan chapter of First Bank retirees has displayed their displeasure at the way the bank’s management has treated its members describing the bank’s gesture as inhumane.
According to the organization, Prince Debo Olaoya (JP), Elder Christopher Adekoya (Chapter Chairman), Comrade Bamgbola Hassan, Comrade Olusanjo Akanmu, and Comrade Adekunle Ajibola signed a statement.
According to them, 80% of seniors in the state, regardless of their departure status, receive less than N20,000 per month.
“The bank has refused to review the monthly pension payment since 2012 despite various Government directives and edicts that there should be periodic review every five years”, the statement reads.
“The First Bank management has also consistently ignored all the plea by pensioners to this effect.
“As a result of this insensitivity, the pensioners are now dying in droves while a lot are languishing on sickbed due to mounting and unaffordable medical bills.
“The public should note that the bank is yet to comply with court judgment of 2010 which instructed the Bank management to account to the pensioners over N200 billion accumulated Pension Trust Fund as reflected in the First Bank Year 2006 Audited Account.”
