BREAKING : Governor Seyi Makinde promises cash prizes for Oyo state medalists in the last Sports festival, assures more commitment to sports development in the state

The Governor of Oyo state, Engr Seyi Makinde has said that his administration will continue on its sports development policies as a strategic avenue of engaging youths of the state meaningfully and has announced payments of N500,000 (five hundred thousand naira) to each gold medalists as reward .

Others who were also gifted are Silver medalists with the sum of N350,000 each while bronze medalists were gifted N250,000 each. To encourage athletes in short put, discus and weightlifting games, an amount of one million naira was announced to be added for gold medalists in the category.

All promises as stated by the Governor will be fulfilled in two weeks time

The Governor who made this pronouncement while hosting the athletic team that represented Oyo state at the just concluded National Sports Festival, Edo 2021 at the Governor’s executive chambers, Secretariat Ibadan,on Wednesday 21st of April, also gifted each coach of every sport N500,000 each

The Governor while expressing his satisfaction at the performance of the team Oyo Athletes stated that he will personally soon be hosting Lawn Tennis medalists at the State Government House to test their skills at the Tennis court. He also expressed his will to play ‘Aayo oloopon’ with the gold medalist from Oyo state

The governor also stated that several files of promised were made before his administration which remained unfulfilled because of the absence of intents but quite a number of percentage were fulfilled after thorough investigation

He also outlined efforts being made by the state government to produce world class athletes by remodeling Lekan Salami stadium and six other mini stadia across all the geopolitical zones of Oyo State. Governor Seyi Makinde also assures the athletes of more conducive environment to thrive in their chosen career and urged them to shun off proposals from any other states.

In conclusion, a target of 100 gold medals was set with an assurance from the Governor to support in putting in place every prerequisite to get it achieved
