“Asa Day” Will Hold In Ibadan on May 21st, World Cultural Day



A nongovernmental, nonprofitable and nonpartisan organization registered in Canada with a special interest in the promotion and projection of Yoruba culture and heritage, Asa Day Worldwide, is planning Asa Day 2021 in Ibadan, Oyo State. It is slated for Friday, 21st May 2021(World Cultural Day).

ASA DAY which will take place at Tarmac Hill Cultural Centre, Mokola Hill, Ibadan, Oyo State, is a collaboration with the Oyo State Government (Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism).

Joel Olaniyi Oyatoye, President, ASA DAY WORLDWIDE, spoke with media officers in Ibadan and revealed that the theme for this year’s programme will centre on ‘LET’S USE OUR CULTURAL HERITAGE TO REVIVE OUR ECONOMY’ with emphasis on lectures and symposium of the aforementioned theme, cultural presentations, awareness on youth empowerment access centre, awards to major players and promoters of Yoruba culture among others.

Joel Oyatoye who is equally known as ‘Baba Asa narrated how the events would be divided into two phases, reiterating that the first phase will feature a lecture by the Former Dean Faculty of Art, University of Ibadan, Professor Adedotun Ogundeji, awareness on youth empowerment access centre. The second phase would be about the celebration of culture and awards’ presentation on the same date and venue respectively.

Emphasising that ASA DAY 2021, targets several people including youths from various states who will be attending the event would have access to these programmes.

Bringing information outlook to our heritage, promoting Yoruba culture through the Oyo State Cultural Centre, Partnership that attracts more tourists and investors to the state, promoting global recognition and encourage the development of our cultural legacy, influencing a cultural institution to Oyo State and establish a cultural museum in Manitoba, Canada among others.

Baba Asa said that the Chief Host will be the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde and Commissioner of Information, Culture and Tourism, Hon. Wasiu Olatunbosun.

Royal Fathers of the day will be Oba(Dr) Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi III, The Alaafin of Oyo and Oba Saliu Adetunji Akanmu Ajeoguguniso1, The Olubadan of Ibadanland.

Special Guests will be Iba Ganni Adams, Aare Onakakanfo of Yorubaland, Olori Francis Oluwagbemiro, The Olori Oluwo ROF Worldwide, Rt. Hon Adebo Ogundoyin, The Speaker of Oyo State House of Assembly, Hon Kazeem Tunde Arole, The Chairman House Committee on Tourism and Culture, other members of Oyo State House of Assembly and other dignitaries across the world respectively.

On safety measures against Covid-19, Baba Asa said, “we know it is a crucial period across the globe, we need to maintain and increase awareness to the world on our culture, traditions and recourses. We will follow all safety guidelines regarding Covid-19″.

On attainment of notable feats so far, he revealed that “ASA DAY WORLDWIDE has embarked on relief activities to the Nigerian Government, as we are organising a project called Youth Empowerment Access Centre where the youths will be empowered”.

“We are also part of the ongoing renovation project of Art Gallery at the Oyo State cultural centre”.

He reiterated, “we have donated computers to several cultural institutions and we are working to do more as we are planning to empower the youths”, Baba said
