Adamawa Poll: Makinde Pays Solidarity Visit to Fintiri, Task INEC to Declare Authentic Winner

The Oyo State Governor, ‘Seyi Makinde, on Monday, paid a solidarity visit to his Adamawa State counterpart in Yola, Governor Umaru Fintiri, on the ongoing supplementary election.

Recall that the Independent Electoral Commission, INEC, had on Sunday afternoon, suspended the collation of the election, following purported declaration of the APC candidate as winner by the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) even when the process has clearly not been concluded.

Meanwhile, the governorship Campaign Council of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in the state stormed the office of the electoral umpire, demanding for the resumption and conclusion of the exercise without further delay.

Makinde, who has in company the Deputy National Chairman (SouthWest) of the Peoples Democratic Party, Amb. Taofeeq Arapaja in a post on his Twitter however, described the declaration of the APC candidate, Aishat Binani as Illegal.

He wrote: “Earlier today, we paid a solidarity visit to my brother, @GovernorAUF, at the Government House in Yola. In my remarks to the press, I called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to do the right thing and ensure that the decision of the people of Adamawa State is upheld.

“I also condemned the actions of the Adamawa Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) who acted beyond his powers in illegally declaring a winner before the electoral process was concluded. I said that such people should have no place in positions of authority in Nigeria in the near future,” he added.
