Few hours to the end of 2021, 11 people have narrowly avoided death in an autocrash on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway as a truck conveying Premium Motor Spirit (Pertol) collided with four other vehicles.
Dr. Femi Oke-Osanyintolu, Director General of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, said the accident involved an articulated vehicle loaded with PMS with an unknown registration number, as well as four other vehicles: a black Toyota Corolla with registration number APP 681 FL, a yellow commercial LT Bus with registration number JJJ 281 XT, a grey color Hunda accord AKD 368 GP, and a grey Toyota Sienn ( unregistered).
According to reports, the tanker lost control due to brake failure; hitting the Honda accord from the rear before falling onto the Toyota Corolla.
“Seven casualties received on-the-spot treatment from the pre-hospital care unit while four others were extricated and taken to the Trauma centre.
“No fatality was recorded at the scene of the incident while traffic is being diverted along alternative routes.
“Miscreants intent on scooping the PMS are posing a serious threat to the operation, and citizens are being asked to avoid using bare flame,” he said.
Another mishap on the same route, according to Oke-Osanyintolu, involved an articulated vehicle with an unknown registration laden with diesel that has been blocked off for continuing product transloading.
